This Colombia seven-piece, led by harpist and composer Carlos Rojas, have been playing for over 20 years, performing across Latin America, Europe and the US. They play the high-velocity traditional dance music joropo, from Los Llanos Orientales, the great Orinoco plains which stretch from Colombian into Venezuela. Rooted in these vast cattle-ranching territories, joropo is played on harp, bandola and cuatro accompanied by bass, cajon and maracas. Acclaimed for their virtuosity and deep heritage, Cimarrón’s Smithsonian album Si Soy Llanero was nominated for a Grammy in 2005. They are preparing a new album for release in 2009 and are also working on a collaborative project with Welsh harpist Catrin Finch. // VIDEOS
